Cleaning Guidance Related to COVID-19 and Herman Miller Finishes Textile Care

In late April, 2020 Herman Miller recently provided some helpful tips on how to care for textiles and seating suspension materials.  As we are helping assist our customers gear up to return back to their offices and classrooms, our goal is for you to have the healthiest and safest work and educational environments possible. Herman Miller is providing this information as a service for cleaning and disinfecting. It’s always important to refer to the manufactures labels for specific product details and if you have any questions about your existing product from any manufacturer, we are here to help.

As we return to work and start to replace furniture and design new work places. Picking materials and finishes that will help stop the spread of diseases should be a priority to help combat Covid-19. Examples of great cleanability of materials, especially in a high touch area, include polyurethane or silicone, or bleachcleanable woven fabrics.

Note: Do not use disinfecting wipes containing bleach on textiles.

To be Avoided

Bleach. The use of bleach may occur for infrequent disinfecting, but it is recommend to avoid its use because it corrodes metal, damages environmental surfaces, is inactivated by organic matter, and is toxic. Products with a pH factor between 7 and 9 are suitable; a product with a pH of 10.5 or higher may damage the surface integrity. Petroleum Distillate Solutions Solutions that contain petroleum distillates should not be used.
